Principle to Keep

The principle that I think would be important to keep in a situation like The Road would be hope because without hope the situation can not get any better it will only get worse. In the book the mother did not have hope for the future and ended up killing herself. The boy started to have the same thoughts as the mother and wished that he would die, but he also had dreams and hopes of what the south would be like that fought against those bad thoughts. Hope is what motivated them to keep going throughout the book. Though the man did not have much hope he did have hope that things might become better for his son. If it was not for his hope in finding food, and his son being able to survive he probably would have stopped looking for food in houses or just have killed the son and himself when the wife wanted him to.  If no one has hope in something like that no one will want to live on and make the future better and everyone would just die off. If people do not think that anything good can become of the future why would they want to stick around to see it.
